🌏 The Hidden Cost of Our Clothes: Fashion, Landfill & Why Awareness Matters
Share
When we buy clothes, we often think about how they’ll look, how they’ll fit, or how they’ll make us feel. But how often do we stop to think about what happens after we’re done with them?
The truth is, fashion has a hidden cost — one that’s hurting our planet and impacting communities around the world.
🚨 The reality of clothing landfill in Australia
Let’s start close to home.
👉 Australians send around 200,000 tonnes of clothing to landfill every year.
👉 That’s about 23 kilograms of clothing waste per person annually.
👉 Around 90% of textiles purchased in Australia end up in landfill, where synthetic fibres can take decades — even centuries — to break down.

It’s sobering, isn’t it?
The environmental and human cost
When clothes end up in landfill:
🌱 They release harmful greenhouse gases as they decompose — adding to climate change.
🌱 Microplastics from synthetic fabrics can leach into our soil and waterways.
🌱 Resources used to create those clothes — water, energy, labour — are wasted.
And let’s not forget the people behind the clothing — many of whom work in unsafe conditions, for low pay, so we can access cheap, disposable fashion.
Time to build our awareness
This isn’t about guilt — it’s about awareness.
When we stop and think about the true cost of that $10 top or that impulse online buy, we can start to make different choices:
âś” Buy less, choose well, make it last.
âś” Support brands committed to sustainability and ethics.
âś” Repair, swap, or donate rather than toss.
Every small shift helps reduce the pressure on our planet and the people who live in it.
Our mission: Raising awareness and inspiring conscious choices
Part of our mission is to increase understanding of these issues — from landfill waste to ethical manufacturing — so you can shop with purpose.
We believe in supporting:
🌿 Local makers
🌿 Ethically manufactured products
🌿 Sustainability as a key influence and driver
Together, we can create a fashion future that honours people, planet, and purpose.
Conscious fashion starts with us
👉 Before you buy, ask yourself: Do I really need this? Will I wear it often? Can I choose something better for the planet?
Our everyday choices add up to a future where fashion empowers — not harms.
✨ Let’s wear the change we want to see.
