A Mid-Winter Spring Clean for the Soul: Preparing for What's Next
Share
There's an old saying that summer bodies are built in winter. Around this time of year, people start going to the gym more often, healthier habits come to the forefront of mind, and many start thinking ahead to the warmer months. We know that if we want to feel our best in summer, the work doesn't begin in December. It begins now, during the quieter months of winter, when we're laying the foundations for what's to come.
What if we approached our inner world in exactly the same way?
What if July wasn't just about getting through winter? What if it has actually been quietly preparing us for what's coming next?
Here in Australia, we're right in the middle of winter, and I can't help but notice that nature is showing us exactly what we're being invited to do. The trees have shed their leaves. The earth appears still, yet beneath the surface life is quietly preparing for a new season. Nothing is forcing its way forward. Everything is unfolding in its own perfect timing.
Perhaps we're being invited to do the same.
As I reflect on the past month, one theme keeps coming up in conversations with clients, friends and our community. July has felt like a month of honouring the journey we're on. It's encouraged us to slow down enough to ask some deeper questions. Who am I becoming? What's really important to me now? What still aligns with my values, and what have I simply been carrying and have taken on too much - become over responsible? Rather than searching outside ourselves for more answers, many of us have felt a gentle pull to withdraw a little, spend time in reflection and reconnect with the wisdom that's always been within us.
We live in a world that celebrates doing and being constantly busy, yet our soul often speaks most clearly in the spaces between the doing. When every spare moment is filled with noise, distraction, and busyness, it's difficult to hear that quiet inner voice nudging us towards what feels right. Silence isn't empty; it's where clarity has the opportunity to emerge.
Interestingly, research has shown that spending time in quiet reflection and in nature can reduce rumination, calm the nervous system and improve emotional wellbeing. When we step away from constant stimulation, our brain's default mode network becomes active, helping us process experiences, strengthen self-awareness and gain new insights. Perhaps those moments when we think we're "doing nothing" are actually some of the most productive moments we can give ourselves.
From my perspective, this is also part of the incredible expansion of consciousness that so many people are experiencing. More than ever, we're questioning old ways of living. We're recognising that being constantly busy isn't the same as being fulfilled, and that success without peace comes at a very high price. We're being invited to create greater Consciousness, Coherence and Connection; becoming conscious of the patterns we've outgrown, creating coherence by calming our nervous system so we feel safe in ourselves, and deepening our connection with who we truly are beneath all the expectations, roles and responsibilities we've accumulated over the years.
Maybe this is why July has felt like a mid-winter spring clean for the soul.
Just as we open the cupboards, clear out the spare room or sort through the things we've been hanging on to "just in case", perhaps it's time to do the same internally. We can gently let go of beliefs that no longer support us, commitments that no longer align with our values, expectations that belong to someone else's version of success, and habits that quietly drain our precious time and energy. Creating space isn't about throwing our old life away. It's about making room for a life that feels lighter, more aligned, and more authentically ours.
As we move into August, many people will be talking about the Lion's Gate Portal, a time often associated with courage, expansion, and stepping more fully into our authentic path. Whether you see it as a spiritual gateway or simply a beautiful reminder to begin a new chapter, I think the message is the same. Before we step into what's next, we first need to create space for it. We can't keep filling an already overflowing cup, and we can't expect greater clarity if we're still holding tightly to everything that no longer belongs.
Perhaps that's the real invitation of this season. Not to become somebody different, but to fall in love with the truth of who you already are. To trust your own path and to become more discerning with your time and energy. To choose peace over pressure, presence over perfection, and alignment over obligation. The more we do that, the lighter life begins to feel, because we're no longer carrying things that were never ours to hold.
So before you rush into another month, perhaps ask yourself a few simple questions. What am I ready to lovingly let go of? Where am I out of alignment with my own values? What is my soul quietly asking for? Most importantly, what would my life look like if I trusted the truth of who I really am?
Maybe your greatest preparation for what's ahead isn't learning something new or working harder. Maybe it's simply creating enough space for the real you to emerge.
Your Next Step
If this resonates with you, perhaps this week is the perfect opportunity to create your own mid-winter spring clean for the soul. Spend some time in nature, listen to a frequency that helps you slow down or simply give yourself permission to sit in silence for a while. The answers you're searching for may not be waiting somewhere outside of you. They may simply be waiting for enough space to finally be heard.
As always…Trust. Believe. Allow.
💫Just Choose Life. Choose consciously. Live aligned.
